Custom at Michael Thomas

For the past few years, we have quietly developed custom capabilities with our frame and cushioning folks. True custom takes “by-the-inch” to an entirely new and different level—whatever the designer wants!

While the factory will determine the final pricing, our general approach is rather simple: find the nearest equivalent existing frame in our line and compute COM price. Now add back our patterning charge that ranges depending on complexity. Please remember the pattern charge only applies to the first piece if more than one is ordered.

For true custom, we must have a drawing or picture—you know what you meant and we think we know what you meant, but… Also, for true custom, we must have payment in full before work commences, preferably by check.

For simple “by-the-inch” changes, in 3” increments in length, expect a charge of 25% to the price for COM or graded fabrics. An additional materials charge accrues after the first 6” extension. Add two weeks to our normal delivery cycle for “by-the-inch” please.

Our series of carved, usually imported, frames in our 9000 thru 9500 series cannot readily be altered for less than a dozen of an item. If you have an interest, please contact our customer service.

Finally, we find it very difficult to forecast delivery dates for true custom in general terms. Depending upon proximity to the next market as well as our custom backlog, several months may be needed to complete your custom order or you just might get lucky and get your custom piece in our usual prompt cycle—but don’t count on it, please!
